To: Honorable David Lawson, US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, 231 W. Lafayette Blvd #628 Detroit MI 48226

Keep José Luis with his family and in our community!

Give José Luis Sanchez Ronquillo a fair hearing- respect due process! Please deny ICE's motion for an emergency deportation.

Why is this important?

José Luis went to his regular Immigration check-in on April 19th, and was detained and immediately sent to a jail in Port Huron, MI, far from his family. He is now being held in Louisiana. Advocates on his behalf are scheduled to file motions to re-open his case with the Board of Immigration Appeals on May 22nd and May 29th. However, he is already booked on a flight to Mexico City on May 17th!

The Ann Arbor community has mobilized to keep José Luis where he belongs- in his job and with his family. He has been working and supporting his family in Ann Arbor for over 18 years. He worked his way up to become head chef in a local restaurant, and is an active member of his Catholic parish. His two young sons have already been terribly impacted by this sudden crackdown, and his wife fears for their emotional safety.

Please help us! Add your name to ask officials to respect due process and let José Luis have his hearing. His deportation will not make anyone’s life better. Deporting him will not make anyone safer. It will not result in anyone getting a better job. The only thing it will do is devastate one American family and take from Ann Arbor a beloved friend and community member.

There is no emergency and no reason for an emergency deportation.
